Take Action: Tell the FTC to Stop the Kroger Albertsons Megamerger

Kroger and Albertsons have announced their plans for a megamerger in the fall of 2022. Despite the UFCW’s efforts to have an open dialogue with the companies, it has become clear that this megamerger could have a negative impact on not just you and your fellow UFCW members working at Kroger and Albertsons stores, but all workers across the grocery and food industry.

Now, more than ever, it is important for you to help send a clear message about why this merger should be stopped.

Currently, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has the power to take action to stop this megamerger if it finds that the effect of it would substantially lessen competition or create a monopoly. And we, as both union members and consumers, have the power to make sure they do by telling the FTC that this merger must be stopped.

Tell the FTC that this merger could mean higher prices, lower wages, and the loss of good-paying jobs.

Why is speaking out and telling the FTC to sue to block this mega-merger so important?

According to a recently published Economic Policy Institute study, this merger could lead to lower wages for over 746,000 grocery workers across the country – that’s 1 in 4 grocery workers, no matter if they are union members or not.

Even worse, such megamergers could also lead to store closures and higher grocery prices as customers have fewer and fewer choices of where they can shop.

Whether it’s the impact on union jobs, wages, or food prices, it’s time for America’s essential workers to stand together and say enough is enough! Please make your voice heard and call on the FTC today to stop the megamerger from moving forward.
